Started out early with the clocks changing and drove through some v. heavy
torrential down pours on the way. Arriving at Borth the rain had stopped
and blue sky was starting to break through.
Wind appeared to be F4-6 and due to the lulls I rigged a 6.4m which was a
mistake. Well over powered and got rinsed first run out. The waves / swell
were a bit mean out there and I tried a run back upwind to change down to
my 5.0m but got trashed by a big one and came in with a broken bottom
section of the mast :-(
Changed down to my 5.0m and every thing was much better. Although I was
never really comfortable out there today. I was better at just sailing and
not having to think so much about the waves, well the smaller ones anyway.
Adopted the quick dunk gybe mode when there was a decent gap in the waves
which worked ok instead of falling on a gybe with everything in the wrong
direction.
Got out back briefly but it was well bumpy out there so came straigt back
in not wanting to loose my kit altogether ;-)
Watched Al go for some big jumps and saw some nice gybes onto the big swell
way out back.
I thought the bikini clad reef girls of Borth were just folklore but a
gaggle of girls appeared during a lull and stripped down to bikinis and
went in for a dip. I bet they thought we were over dressed. Obviously
everyone stopped sailing for a short while for safety reasons or was it a
lull ;-)
Good fun, a good rinsing and a few swims, lovely.
